What is breast reduction?
Breast reduction surgery, also known as reduction mammoplasty, is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures.
It's so popular “because so many women suffer from symptoms caused by breasts that are disproportionately large for their bodies. (Male breast reduction surgery is known as gynecomastia surgery.)
During this outpatient procedure, the surgeon removes excess fat, skin, and glandular tissue from the breasts to reduce the size of your breasts. They also reshape the remaining tissue, invariably including raising the nipples to make breasts look perkier.
Reducing excess tissue and elevating the breasts on the chest wall improves or completely alleviates many of the physical symptoms associated with disproportionately large breasts.
Patients who benefit most from breast reduction surgery are women who have disproportionately large breasts, causing problems such as the back, shoulder, and neck pain, postural changes, bra-strap grooving, skin irritation and rashes under the breasts, and difficulty with activities of daily living and exercise.
How is Breast Reduction Done?
Many people who want to resort to a breast reduction operation are looking for an answer to the question of how this operation works. Breast reduction surgery can be done in different ways.
The first of these methods is the classic liposuction method. 3-4 mm incisions are made in the area where liposuction will be performed. With the help of these opened incisions, excess adipose tissues in the area are melted. After the fat is dissolved, it is vacuumed with the help of cannulas and excreted from the body. Very slight surgical scars will remain after classical liposuction. The best part of the classic liposuction method is the immediate removal of fat from the body. A noticeable difference occurs after surgery.
Laser liposuction is another method. Excess fat in the breast is melted by laser beams, and fat is vacuumed with 1-2 mm incisions. It is applied in cases where the breast tissue is extremely alive, not flabby and cracked, and flexible. With laser liposuction, excess adipose tissue located in the area is removed. At this point, sagging and scars on the breasts do not occur.
Another method is the classical aesthetic operation method. Incisions are made from the tip of the breast to its lower part. Excess adipose tissue is removed inside the opened breast tissue. Since sagging will usually occur after this procedure, an upright operation is also performed at the same time. Thanks to this, it is possible for individuals to have perfect breasts.
The Process of Recovery After Breast Reduction
Breast reduction is an operation performed with general anesthesia. Therefore, the recovery process proceeds quickly post-processing. Although the healing process after reduction varies depending on the deformation in the area and the way it is applied, it is usually a slightly painful and fast healing process. But the most important point that will affect the recovery process after the operation is the corset. No matter what kind of method is used, patients should wear a corset. Corsets allow the body to get into shape and prevent sagging.
After the operation, people may experience mild pain, swelling, and bruising. These symptoms are quite normal. To minimize your pain and swelling, you can use painkillers and antibiotics recommended by your doctor. After surgery, patients are dressed with bandages. These dressings should be renewed at the intervals indicated by your doctor. Although the patient can return to his normal life immediately after surgery, he should avoid sudden movements.
How Long Will the Operation Take?
The answer to how long the operation lasts varies from person to person. Because the size of the tissue and area to be removed from the breast varies throughout the operation. However, the operation usually takes 1 and 3 hours. However, some procedures can be done in conjunction with breast reduction over time. These are listed as breast lift and body shaping.
After the breast lift is performed according to the person’s preference, fat can be injected into the person’s butt or the sagging in the body can be stretched according to the percentage of fat taken from the person.
